Helping bees and other pollinators

Why are they in trouble?

•We have only 3% of the flowering meadowland and 50% of the hedgerows that we had 60 years ago.
•Viruses and mites have been imported with non-native bees.
•Intensive farming has reduced the variety of forage available.
•Pesticides, harmful to bees, are still used by gardeners and farmers.
•Poor beekeeping practices are compounding the problems.

To help bees you could;

•Grow bee-friendly plants, organically.
•Replace some lawn with wild flowers.
•Buy local, preferably organic food.
•Provide a site for beehives.
•Support local beekeepers.
•Become a beekeeper.
•Lobby politicians and join campaigns.
