Helping bees and other pollinators
Why are they in trouble?
•We have only 3% of
the flowering meadowland and 50% of the hedgerows that we had 60 years ago.
•Viruses and mites have been imported with non-native bees. •Intensive farming has reduced the variety of forage available. •Pesticides, harmful to bees, are still used by gardeners and farmers. •Poor beekeeping practices are compounding the problems. |
To help bees you could;
•Grow bee-friendly
plants, organically.
•Replace some lawn with wild flowers. •Buy local, preferably organic food. •Provide a site for beehives. •Support local beekeepers. •Become a beekeeper. •Lobby politicians and join campaigns. |
